At the heart of our solution is the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC), a game-changer in Kenya’s housing finance landscape. Just like The Boma Yangu project, a solution supporting the Affordable Housing Program targeting delivery of decent and affordable housing to low and middle-income households.KMRC is a non-deposit taking financial institution established in 2018 under the Companies Act 2015. Its mission is to provide long-term funds to primary mortgage lenders (PMLs), such as banks and Saccos, to increase the availability of affordable home loans to Kenyans. Here’s how it works:
YOU GET A KMRC-BACKED LOAN AT A FIXED INTEREST RATE OF 9.5% P.A ON REDUCING BALANCE
WE HELP YOU BUILD YOUR OWN HOME FROM FOUNDATION TO FINISHINGS
YOU PAY THE LOAN FOR A PERIOD OF UPTO 25 YEARS
The process
Consult with the contractor to figure out what type of building you want
Get the drawings and the costing of the house from the contractor
We facilitate the application for affordable housing loan
The contractor facilitates government approvals for construction
When the money is disbursed by the financier, construction begins immediately
We hand over the finished house and you start paying for the mortgage for up to 25 years
